Dos & Don’ts Don’t be surprised to find some vulgarities are censored from TV shows or movies
Don’t kiss anyone in public – in Malaysia such behavior is taboo
Do remove your shoes when entering someone’s house.
Don’t take a gift of alcohol when visiting someone’s house.
Don’t touch any adult’s head.
Don’t point the bottom of your feet at anyone
Don’t bring large amounts of Ringgit into or out of the country without a legal permit.
Do let acquaintances offer to shake hand first, never offer shake hand unless you sure that they are fairly Westernized.
Don’t shake hands with women unless they offer you to do so.
Do avoid the political or ethnicity topics. These subjects are both sensitive in Malaysia.
Don’t buy, use or transferring illegal drugs. Drug traffickers are sentenced to death by Malaysian Law
Do enjoy Malaysian cultural performances.
Don’t disturb sea turtles on beaches, and please never toss plastic bags trash in the water as it may mistake turtles for tasty jellyfish and suffocate
Don’t break coral and shells, take a participation in preserving reefs and beaches.
Do watch your attire.
