Traditional Performances

There are specific schedules of traditional performances around many of the tourist spots of Bali. The shows are commonly performed for tourists but Bali is, of course, the island of arts and culture. Anything to do with culture and religion cannot be separated from art. Every temple ceremony usually begins with some traditional performances, mostly dance. Philosophically, this is aimed to invite and entertain God to bless the ceremonies and all of the religious followers who make offerings, say prayers and partcipate in these ceremonies. Visitors are allowed to enter a temple, by must follow certain rules, such as wearing traditional clothes, or at least a sash, not walking in front of the people who pray, and making sure that camera flashlights do not bother the people who are praying. Women, when menstruating, are forbidden to enter the temple.
