BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
Bandar Seri Begawan is Brunei’s capital city where about 60 thousands people
live. The city presents modern exaggerated public building within the orderliness
and hygiene surrounding. In this city, visitors can enjoy Omar Ali Saifuddin Mosque,
one of the most remarkable and modern mosques in the East. The mosque was built
near the Brunei River in 1958. It features a giant golden dome mosque with the
impressive interior featuring Italian marble walls, plush carpeting and an elevator.
Bandar Seri Begawan also offers some excellent mosques, including the traditional
Brunei museum along with the prolific Malay Technology Museum. Visitors can experience
the water village architecture and the assorted technologies used by the people.
Visitors can visit the Sultan’s magnificent Nurul Iman palace towards the
end of the fasting month of Ramadhan. Kampung Ayer is a centuries-old collectin
of 28 water villages built on stilts at the Brunei River, in habited by about
30 thousands people. The place presents a strange mix of modern and ancient. The
city is not a place for the ‘night owl’ who searching for a happening
nightlife. The streets are almost deserted at 9 pm
WASAI KANDAL
Wasai Kandal situated about 12 kilometers southwest of Bandar Seri Begawa. It
is a forest area with waterfalls and pools. Air Terjun Tinggi Waterfalls is
one of the best. There is a wide and easy-to-follow path that leads past picnic
ponds and pools towards it. Another waterfall a distance away is the Air Terjun
Rendah, which also has its own picnic area. Visitors will need a car to get
there.
PANTAI SERI KENANGAN
The white-sand, casuarinas-lined beach is unquestionably the best in Brunei.
Also known as Pantai Tuton where the ocean is displayed on one side along with
the Tutong River on the other side. This is a famous beach with picnic tables
and simples restaurant. There is a daily market in the nearby town of Tutong
which located on the main highway, halfway from the capital city of Seria. Easily,
visitors can get there by bus.
BATANG DURI
Batang Duri is an Iban longhouse on the Temburong River, about 40 kilometers
southeast of Bandar Seri Begawan. Visitors are advisable to meet the chief before
checking out the place. Nature lovers can get on a boat to Kuala Belalong Field
Studies Center where the tropical rainforest species are researched. The beauty
surrounding forest is rich in flora and fauna with plenty exhilarating walking
trails and relaxing accommodations. Visitors can also visit the nearby Taman
Batang Duri Zoo preserving a range of animals, such as: civets, monkeys, otters
and birds.
PERADAYAN FOREST RESERVE
Bukit Patio and Bukit Peradayan are situated within the Peradayan Forest Reserve.
The peak can be reached by walking along the trail. It is the most accessible
rainforest in Brunei, where the unique wildlife such as squirrels, tree shrews,
moonrat and mouse deer are plenty. Visitors might not have the chance to see
many of these nocturnal species but you possibly get the opportunity to see
the hornbills.
PULAU RANGGU
Situated in the middle of the river near the royal palace, Pulau RanGgu is a
home for large colony of proboscis monkeys. There are also several macaques
here. It is an exciting experience to travel around the place on a water taxi.
Some monkeys can also spotted at sunset.
JERUDONG
Jerudong is the Sultan’s favorite place, where he indulges in polo. The
Jerudong Park has a giant complex with a polo stadium, lavish stables, a golf
course and other facilities for trapshooting and croquet. But, the entry is
by invitation only. There is also a massive amusement park at Jerudong with
a huge number of rides. Just behind the park is the Jerudong beach with its
great cliffs displaying the magnificent views. There are also stalls selling
fishes. To get to Jerudong, just drive north off the main highway between Bandar
Seri Begawan and Tutong. |
